How Odia and Kannada compare
- Odia is written in the Odia script and Kannada in the Kannada script, so the translation changes the script as well as the words.
- Odia is Indo-Aryan and Kannada is Dravidian: the grammar and most everyday words differ, although both use words that come from Sanskrit.
- Both usually put words in the order subject–object–verb, with the verb at the end, which keeps sentences close in shape.
